LOTS TO DO: Opera on the big screen. Extra smart dogs. A future country music legend.

In addition to the usual mix of movies, music and theater, Arlington offers quite an eclectic number of entertainment events this weekend. They range from a teen talent contest and the presence of what are apparently some literary dogs to opera on the big (really big) screen at Cowboys Stadium. Check these out:
Enjoy the Dallas Opera’s 2013 Cowboys Stadium Simulcast of Italian composer Giacomo Puccini’s “Turandot” at the state-of-the-art home of the Dallas Cowboys, located at One Legends Way. Enjoy a complete, unabridged live performance on the world’s largest high-definition video board. Doors open at 6:00pm. Warner Bros. Classics’ “What’s Opera, Doc?” begins at 6:45pm. “Turandot” begins at 7:30pm; doors open at 6:00pm. General admission tickets and parking are free.
If you are headed to Six Flags Over Texas this weekend, celebrate the heritage and richness of the Latino culture on April 13 & 14 as the theme park hosts Festival Latino! Take part in the experience with workshops in piƱata and Aztec mask making. Taste traditional foods and watch performances full of traditional dance, costumes and music. Normal park admission and parking rates apply.

Join us this weekend for some high-flying fun! The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual Kite Festival at River Legacy Parks in north Arlington from 10am–2pm on Saturday. The festival includes kite-building workshops, kite stunt demonstrations, kite contests, face painting, a bounce house, concessions and more. The festival is $5 for each participant and free for observers. Pre-registration is not required. Call 817-459-6434 for more information or visit www.facebook.com/ArlingtonParks.
This one-of-a-kind country music legend is ready to bring down the house this weekend during a live performance at Arlington Music Hall. With 11 albums, over 25 charted singles, and thousands of touring miles already under his big belt buckle, this Longview, TX native has no intention of slowing down. Neal McCoy hits the stage at 7:30pm on Saturday. Tickets range from $40-65.
Do you have a talented teenager in your house? The Dance Theater of Arlington is hosting auditions for seventh through 12th graders in Tarrant County. Students will compete for a possible $2500 in scholarships. Call 817-860-1327 for information or to schedule an audition appointment. Free.
Children, ages five and up, can spend time reading to a trained therapy dogs for 15 minutes during this reading program held at the Southwest Branch Library, 3311 SW Green Oaks Blvd. Parents are encouraged to watch their child become comfortable reading to his or her canine buddy. At least four dog therapy organizations are now participating in this worthwhile literacy program. 10:30am-noon on Saturday. Free.
